I live in a city where the climate is dry and that never helps anyone’s skin, but it’s especially bad when you already have issues with dry skin. I have psoriasis on my scalp and it’s a bitch. There’s no cure for that shit either.
I’m not sure if me having psoriasis means my baby gets it, or eczema, but my mom and sister have it as well so I’m gonna assume yes. I’m disappointed to say my son now has eczema, BUT my pediatrician said that baby eczema is super common and can go away later on. *Cross fingers*
So because my baby has had a mild case of baby eczema I’ve tried a couple of things on the suggestion of my pediatrician but didn’t find they were much help.
We tried giving warm baths every day only for 5 minutes tops, and when that didn’t work we tried giving him warm baths every other day. Of course we used creams right after the bath and patted him gently – you know, everything the doctors or articles say or suggest that you do.
For moisturizing his skin after a bath I used Eucerin, Aquaphor and I even went the au natural route and used organic coconut oil.
I tried a different bathing routine with him in luke warm water (coldest I could go without drying out his skin) and only bathed him 1-2 times a week, which ruined my night time routine for a bit there.
We then changed our detergent to sensitive ones washing just his clothes and baby items in that. That also didn’t help, so then I washed not only his clothes but also our clothes or anything that touched his body in the sensitive skin detergent. Still no improvement.
I wasn’t super concerned until he started to get more bumps and it appeared red and rough. I felt a bit defeated and annoyed. I was going to go back to the paediatrician to get some more help but then I stumbled upon an amazing body wash that I wouldn’t think to use, mostly because it’s not marketed for babies and it’s not sold in your typical baby store or regular department/or grocery store.
It is all natural though. What is it, you ask?
I bought this as I came across an article about another mom who used this on her son’s extreme rosacea and baby eczema skin issues. She claimed that after one use it was gone. I was sold. At this point I would have tried anything, so naturally I purchased it then tried it on Ryo immediately.
I’m not sure I would go so far as to say it worked after one use, but after a week of use he had no bumps, no sign of dryness, and all the eczema was completely gone! I’ve been using the body wash for the past few months and he has not had any skin issues since.
It’s not cheap but a little goes a long way and the amount you get lasts a long time. It’s been a few months and we still have almost a whole container left.
Actually that’s a lie, half is gone because I started using it on myself. BUT if I hadn’t, there would be lots left.
We also changed our routine to bathing him every day in warm (100*F) water using this body wash and still no return of the asshole named eczema.
I bought the shower cream and the body cream and I’ve mostly used the body shower and barely used the body cream, so I’m sure the wash alone is working great.
If you’re not sure about buying it but do want to try it they give you samples at Lush, which is awesome, you can’t go wrong. Test drive it before you invest the money!
Anyways, I hope this helps any moms who have babies going through this!
